The Vivek Narain Search
Follow the hunt for a missing father
My name is Vivek Narain and my father is missing. The man I grew up idolizing left me and mother ten years ago without a word, and now I plan to find him.
I have several general assumptions about why he left, none of which have been substantiated by any solid evidence because he literally vanished. Maybe he met another woman? Maybe it was a mid-life crisis taken to the extreme? Maybe he was sick and didn’t want to share with us the pain of death? Or maybe he just didn’t want to deal with having a son like me anymore?
Regardless of the reason for his departure, I have spent the last ten years agonizing over his sudden flight and I have become obsessed with the idea of discovering where he is and finding out why he left his family without a word.
My father is not old; he would be exactly 51 this year, and if old men like Harrison Ford can still perform extreme Indiana Jones stunts than there is a good chance my father is still alive and in good health. I imagine my dad living a new life with a new family, and it is this new world that my father has built without me that I crave to see. I don’t know what will happen when I find him, but I know that his disappearance has left me with a horrible gaping hole in my heart that must be filled before I can move on to a normal adult life.
Besides his age and name at the time he left (who knows if he changed it) I have surprisingly little information about him, I believe my father purposely destroyed or hid most of the financial information and other data that we could have used to track him. These premeditated actions concern me greatly, and make me think that he truly wanted to leave and never be found. I do know that he left in a 1990 Buick Regal, and I also have some old financial records and account numbers that I will attempt to track.
I will update this site as my personal road journal as I hit the road in search of my father. I rented a minivan to use as a roof over my head when needed, allowing me to stay mobile when tracking leads. Over the years I’ve managed to save up some money while living at home and working both mindless retail jobs and taking on various lucrative side projects, so I have some income to burn on this hunt.
I’ve learned some excellent searching skills during this experience and I’ve included some of them on this site just in case any readers find themselves in a similar situation. I hope this information can help someone else who is looking for a lost soul. Wish me luck, and if you ever find yourself in my position, I pray my information, experiences, and mistakes will help you succeed. I will update my search log as much as I can, I’m going to take my laptop and look for internet cafes as I travel. There are plenty of wireless spots for my laptop in California, but I don’t know about the rest of the country, so it remains to be seen how regular my updates will be, but I assure you I will do my best.
